Ten tips for new Ubuntu users Ubuntu has become the most popular Linux distribution for new Linux users. It's easy to install, easy to use, and usually "just works." But moving to a different operating system can be confusing, no matter how well-designed it is. Here's a list of tips that might save you some time while you're getting used to Ubuntu. 1. The agency is largely sticking with its interim recommendations that schools steer clear of Vista in existing deployments and Office 2007 altogether. Anticipating the release of Vista in January 2007, Becta announced a year earlier its intention to study Microsoft's flagship software products in an attempt to provide UK schools with some guidance on adoption. An interim report released last January cited interoperability concerns with Office 2007 and recommended against early deployment of Vista in the education sector. Last October, Becta also recommended that schools eschew signing licensing agreements with Microsoft. The modular course should take two days to complete all 10 of the lessons offered, but it is possible to cover topics and lessons independently of each other, learning whatever is of interest. Coming in two versions, both downloadable as PDFs, there is a student guide and an instructor guide. Software | January 06, 2008 5:48pm | Permalink What to Expect from Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)Hardy is on the way to be a better more reliable system than Windows, even if Gutsy and Feisty are, most windows users who used my Ubuntu installation or installed it on their own system didn’t really like it as they found it too complicated to do things such as syncing their iPods or installing the missing wi-fi drivers. Here are propositions that I think would be able to make the average windows user more familiar with Ubuntu and have a better experience. Wizard on first user login The first time a user log in to their account on Ubuntu, a basic wizard should pop-up to allow the user to customize their account and install new programs from the internet according to their needs.(For users with non-administrator rights, installing software could cause a problem though, but if this idea is used maybe a workaround could be made.)
